World Wide Day of Play -
‘I Play Because…’
Nickelodeon
Worldwide Day of Play is an annual event designed to encourage children and parents to turn off the television and play, especially outdoors.
The event influences children to be active by getting their schools and educational organizations to host an event to get out and be active. Those wanting to participate would contact Nickelodeon for instructions.

Promoting being outside and being active, this microsite showcases Nickelodeon talent and other celebrities explaining why they love to play outside. Early concepts featured different backgrounds that revolved around an activity or outdoor environment.
The grid of thumbnails was prominent in the concepts, which later would be a driving force in the designs for the Nick iOS App on iPad, as well as the Nick.com Redesign.
The grass field concept I designed was chosen by management. After flushing out the designs, the Nickelodeon team worked with an outside vendor, who built the site and who I helped hone in the interactive elements of the microsite. As the user moves their cursor, the grid would pan/tilt in the same direction.
The grid would feature a variety of celebrities and Nickelodeon talent. When the user clicks on a specific content tile, a popup would appear with details of the person and an accompanying video explaining their reason for getting outside & being active.
