Lifesize is a video and audio telecommunications company which provides high definition video conferencing endpoints and accessories, touchscreen conference room phones and a cloud-based video collaboration platform.

Tasked to redesign the mobile experience for both Guest and Registered users while streamlining the steps to join a meeting and re-evaluating features presented to the different set of users.

We mapped out the user’s journey, piecing together every step one would take in order to join a call, making sure there’s no dead-ends.

We worked with a grid system that would allow for an aligned look for the various In-call and Out-call components. The app would be available for iOS, Android and web platforms (web breakpoints were tablet 768px/1024px & desktop 1366px)

With the help of another designer on the team, wires were flushed out for all breakpoints, aiming to not only bring a fresh & modern looking approach to joining a call, but also a simple path to have users use the least amount of steps.

Once we had initial wires in place, we started mapping out the flow of early prototypes, to full grasp the journey, checking our steps. This allowed us to find any inconsistencies, if we needed to include another screen, or better if we could consolidate any screens or steps to streamline the journey.

As the wires were nearly completion, we began dropping in some UI elements; some brand colors, fonts, stock photos. I created early motion prototypes to test out potential user interaction motion. How would the screen transition into a video call? How doe the in-call icons appear? The current call experience was very static; we wanted to incorporate simple motion to bring life to the experience.

Close to the finished product, the Product team was outlining new design principles using the updated design assets and using the app design as a template for future products. We gather all our designs, placing them in devices for our C-suite to view and experience the new product.
